Yarn Wrap Sheep

This yarn wrap sheep is a really cute activity to go along with the song “Baa Baa Black Sheep” and is a great fine motor skill for kids to practice.

I started by cutting out a sheep outline from two pieces of card, gluing them back to back but not joining the legs together. This gives the card extra stability and then the legs can be separated at the end so that the sheep can stand up. I drew on some features.

I made two sheep, and picked two different types of black yarn (wool).

I started off one of the sheep by taping one end of the yarn to the sheep and wrapping the yarn around the body of the sheep a few times. F was quite intrigued!

I gave him the sheep with the other wool and he also liked this one, and “danced” the two sheep around while my mother and I sung “Baa Baa Black Sheep” several times over.

We finished off the yarn wrap sheep for him and then opened out the legs so that the sheep could stand up. Cute!
