These pom pom bugs are an adorable craft to make with the kids for Valentine’s Day!

Last year we made some love bugs which had a wooden heart base. This year we used pom poms for the body of the bug! To make these cute critters we used:
- Heart shaped stickers (ours were from the dollar store, but you could get them from Amazon or just cut your own from craft foam or card)
- 2″ red pom poms
- Red and pink pipe cleaners (and wire cutters for cutting them into shorter lengths)
- Feathers
- Adhesive craft foam googly eyes (ours were from the All Eyes On You set from Creatify – available at Target)
- White craft glue
My son and I started by attaching a pom pom to the adhesive side of the heart sticker. The sticker then forms the base – or rather “feet”!
Then we got creative and added pipe cleaner arms, feather tails, and more! The pipe cleaners and feathers were attached by adding glue to one end and then pushing it into the pom pom. If the attachments are small and light enough then they will stay in position – no hot glue gun required!
My son had a LOT of fun adding the googly eyes. In fact he covered one of the bugs completely with eyes!
For one of my bugs I curled some short lengths of pipe cleaner and made it into crazy hair.
When F noticed the curls he wanted one for a tail as it looked like a pig! That bug then got a cute feather on top.
We made two each and they are totally adorable!
