My son and I made this fun glow in the dark lantern together! The decoration is simple yet effective.

I recently bought this cute rope-handled lantern. The candle is battery operated, which although isn’t as pretty as a real candle, makes it safer for my son! Just as when we decorated the plant pots, I wanted to take this cheap item and make it special! I decided to use Apple Barrel Glow In The Dark paint in pink, yellow, and green.
All kinds of pretty ideas crossed my mind, but I really wanted F to get involved, so I settled for an easy dot pattern. I removed the rope handle and he applied the paint with Q-Tips. We’ve done painting this way before, but only on paper!
Some of his dots weren’t the neatest, but I either wiped up any excess or left them!
After his dots had dried, I went round again adding smaller dots using the end of the handle of a paint brush!
It looked really fun, and absolutely perfect for sitting outside and watching the sun go down.
Of course to get the full effect from the glow in the dark paint, a blacklight is essential. Just charge it up by shining the blacklight all over the lantern, then switching it off. It almost looks like there are fireflies in there!
Note: Don’t leave the lantern out overnight, always bring it back inside!
