This homemade chocolate playdough smells fantastic and it is so easy to make.Make your own Chocolate Play Dough!

The last time I made play dough with cocoa powder was nearly two years ago as part of my Herb & Spice Play Dough collection. I thought it was about time to make more, and my son was certainly happy about this idea!

To make this dough I used:

  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup flour
  • 2 tbs salt
  • ½ tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tbs cocoa powder

Add all the ingredients to a small saucepan and stir well.Chocolate Playdough

Cook the play dough over a low heat, stirring constantly. After a few minutes it will start to clump together in one ball.Chocolate Playdough

Remove it from the heat and place the dough onto a piece of wax paper. Let it cool slightly, then knead until smooth. Then the play dough is ready for play!

Note: This playdough is “taste-safe” but it doesn’t taste as nice as it smells! Children should be discouraged from eating it.Chocolate Play Dough
By the way, the cute chocolate mold is from Williams Sonoma which sadly I can’t see on sale any more.
If you’ve never made your own play dough before, then this video will guide you through the basic techniques:
