Chocolate Playdough

Jump to recipe

This homemade chocolate playdough smells fantastic and it is so easy to make.

Make your own Chocolate Play Dough!

Thank you!The last time I made play dough with cocoa powder was nearly two years ago as part of my Herb & Spice Play Dough collection. I thought it was about time to make more, and my son was certainly happy about this idea!

To make this dough I used:

  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup flour
  • 2 tbs salt
  • ½ tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tbs cocoa powder
Add all the ingredients to a small saucepan and stir well.

Cook the play dough over a low heat, stirring constantly. After a few minutes it will start to clump together in one ball.

Remove it from the heat and place the dough onto a piece of wax paper. Let it cool slightly, then knead until smooth. Then the play dough is ready for play!

Note: This playdough is “taste-safe” but it doesn’t taste as nice as it smells! Children should be discouraged from eating it.

By the way, the cute chocolate mold is from Williams Sonoma which sadly I can’t see on sale any more.

If you’ve never made your own play dough before, then this video will guide you through the basic techniques:
