Kids can help decorate these painted plant pots using the tape resist technique to make the color blocks!

I picked up five clay pots (two medium size, three mini) from our local dollar store the other day – $2 for all five! But I thought that they looked too plain, so my son and I decided to paint them with different layers in a color block style.
We used some Ceramcoat paint from PLAID. These non-toxic acrylic paints work perfectly on wood, paper mache, plaster, terracotta, canvas and more. I picked out four colors: Ceramcoat Lake, Ceramcoat Iguana (I also used this paint for my Woodland Stencil Art!), Ceramcoat Electric Lime and Ceramcoat Midnight Dream.
The paint went on really evenly – great coverage! And we only needed to use one coat.
When the paint had thoroughly dried, I used some painters’ tape to section off some color blocks on each plant pot. We then used a different paint color for the next layer.
When the paint was dry I carefully removed the tape – and the original coat of paint stayed in place and didn’t flake at all! To finish, I repeated the same process again with a third layer, although I will admit that my son had somewhat lost interest at this point! But the final pots looked great!
And of course, we needed something to fill them, so I bought several different succulents that were perfect!
