It feels like it’s been AGES since I worked on a new play dough recipe! This one was inspired by some out of date coconut flour that I found at the back of the cupboard. My first attempt also included coconut oil, but I found that it made the play dough too slimy. So this is the final recipe:
- ½ cup AP flour
- ¼ cup coconut flour
- 2 tbs salt
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- ¾ – 1 cup water
Add the first four ingredients to a saucepan and stir well. Add ¾ water and mix. Add more water if necessary until a thick “sludge” has formed – sort of like porridge.
Place the saucepan over a low-medium heat and stir frequently until the play dough clumps together in a ball.
Spoon the dough out onto a piece of wax paper and leave until cool enough to handle. Knead the dough for a minute or two until smooth, then leave to cool fully. Wrap in wax paper and store in an airtight bag until required.
My son loved the smell! He also commented about how soft it was.
