At the edge of our property there is a river, and now that the weather has improved, every now and then we see kayakers on the river. My son and I made this colorful kayak craft using craft sticks! You’ll need:
- Colored craft sticks (we got ours from our friends at craftprojectideas.com)
- White craft glue
- Jumbo craft sticks (optional)
To make the base of the kayak, lay out 10 craft sticks at an angle.
Spread glue along the length of another craft stick and lay it at the ends of the original sticks. Repeat on the other side.
Layer up the sides of the kayak by adding glue to the ends of each new stick, and adding it to each side.
We used 5-6 on each side, so about 30 sticks in total.
To finish you could add a jumbo craft stick as a paddle!
My son did a pretty good job at making his own craft stick kayak, although did need some help positioning the sides.
And just so you know, this craft is totally fine if you use double the amount of glue that is necessary… 🙂
Here are the finished kayaks!
F added a figurine to his!

Oh and does it float? Well yes, it does! But as we used washable glue I’m not sure how long it would actually last. 🙂
