Woohoo and wa-hey for summer! It’s the time for playing outside, enjoying the sun and eating ICE CREAM. My son’s favorite flavor is vanilla, and when I was in Walmart the other day I saw some Vanilla Blue Bunny Sweet Freedom which I thought would be perfect for him! I love that it doesn’t have added sugar.

But vanilla ice cream somehow looks a bit plain, so I decided to let him decorate it with some homemade summery sugar sprinkles. As the ice cream was sugar free I was happy to let him have the sprinkles as I knew he wouldn’t be getting a crazy amount of sugar in one treat. Here’s what we used:

  • Blue Bunny Sweet Freedom Ice Cream – Vanilla
  • Raw cane sugar
  • Resealable baggies
  • Wilton icing gel in red and yellow
  • Colourful prep bowls
  • Sugar shakers
All these items were purchased from Walmart!

I poured some sugar into two baggies. I used the raw cane sugar because it is a little coarser than regular sugar, which makes it better for sprinkling! Then I added some of the icing gel to the bags – yellow in one, and yellow with a touch of red in the other to make a nice sunny orange. I sealed the bags and asked my son to help me massage the color into the sugar.

I spread the sugar out onto two separate baking trays and let it dry for a few hours. Using a small funnel I then poured the sugar into the shakers. Aren’t the shakers adorable?

I scooped out some delicious ice cream and then F got to shake his newly created sugar sprinkles over the top!

Don’t you want to just dive in? 🙂
