Rainbow Baking Soda Dough

I made this baking soda dough in rainbow colors! It is such a fun play recipe for kids to experience!

Thank you!We love trying out new kinds of sensory dough – which is subtly different from play dough! Baking soda dough is just baking soda and water, with added food dye if you want a colorful version. Once I got making it, I decided to make it in rainbow colors! By the way, I just use dollar store baking soda for this recipe – it doesn’t have to be anything fancy! For each color I used about ¾ cup of baking soda, and then added about 2-3 tablespoons of water and some food dye (I used this set for everything apart from the purple, where I used this neon set).

I mixed everything together so that it formed crumbles, then added more food dye as needed.

Once the correct color had been achieved, I added a little more water until the dough was soft and squidgy!

I placed the dough in a large baking dish, gave the bowl and spoon a quick rinse and made the next color. The finished rainbow dough was really vibrant!

My son couldn’t wait to get playing with it, although when he realized it was a different texture from normal play dough he got rather cautious!

Very soon he went to get some construction toys. All the dough got scooped into the dump truck, then dumped into a bowl.

The resulting crumbles actually looked very pretty! And that digger looks like it’s ruined but this dough rinses off *really* easily – it is no way as sticky as it looks.

Note: With all the food dye being used for this sensory dough, mild staining may occur. Make sure you protect your surfaces and the kids’ clothes if you are worried about this.
